I'm just curious to know why indoor pets need the same shots and immunizations as outdoor pets? They aren't going outside- and if you have no other pets, nothing is brought in to them.

Anyone know why this is true? Do you have to get indoor pets the same shots? Rabies? etc?

I have heard that humans can bring infection in from the outside, on their shoes. Indoor cats can get fleas and worms this way, and probably other bad things, too.

You would be surprised at the number of diseases that can live in dirt. Which, can be tracked in on shoes and clothing. Also, I think just in case your cat does get outside where it is exposed to other animals and their feces and all those other areas where disease and bacteria hide.

The adage that states it is better safe than sorry will still be in effect whether it be for humans or for animals.

Or another adage--- an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

You know I never really thought about us bringing things in to hurt the indoor pets. I have always gotten the immunizations for the indoor cat- no questions asked. I just wondered why.

Makes sense though- and Gracie tries to bolt out often enough!
