| What does everyone use to keep pesky fleas at bay? Our guys have never had them before a few months ago, and we have really been struggling to get them out of the house - I still find one or so a week... | |

| I picked this recipe up a couple of years ago. We don't use any chemicals in our house. So it all needs to be natural. Diatomaceous earth is great, but you need to get it from a garden store as it is a finer mixture. Diatomaceous earth litterly is like walking on glass for a small insect and it will punture their body. You don't want to leave the mixture on your carpets for a long period of time, we usually put it on at night and vacuum it up in the morning. You can also use this same mixture outside your doors, keeps crickets at bay too. We haven't has a flea problem inside our home for several years. (But I do dread when they visit the vet that they will bring home unwanted friends) - Quote :
- Mix together 1 1/2 pounds of diatomaceous earth, 1 1/2 pounds of natural borax and 1 cup of salt. (Don't use the earth and borax that you can purchase at a pool store, rather use the products that you can get from your local garden store.) The diatomaceous earth works because it contains very tiny particles that have sharp spines, which puncture the exoskeleton of the flea, killing it. The borax and salt work by absorbing the moisture of the flea and make all of those cracks and small areas that they might find to live in your home much more undesirable. You can use the mixture by sprinkling it throughout your home onto carpets and into those harder to reach areas. Allow the mixture to sit for a couple of days and then vacuum it up.

| Thanks for the info! I have also been told by someone else that using some dawn and your garden hose also helps to kill the pesky creatures in the yard - has anyone tried the Dawn soap method? | |

| The flea collars do not work for us, but I did find a use for them - stick them under the beds, couches, tables, etc. to help get rid of the fleas in the house! | |

| I have tried:
Hartz flea drops (junk, do not work) Hartz flea collar (dangerous junk, does not work and can be harmful) Seargeant's (sp?) Flea Shampoo (somewhat helps but does not get rid of all fleas) Advantage (excellent)
