Exotic pet food.

I saw a t.v. program that featured a girl who started making her own food for her hermit crabs because the commercial food has ingredients that actually shorten the crab's lifespan. Since she didn't want to keep feeding her hermit crab poisons, she did some research and was soon selling her extra food online.

I didn't know that exotic pet owners faced this problem and thought that all specialized pet food was safe.

How common is thisproblem?

I know that if you have wild cats as pets you need to buy them specialized food as well, which is probably expensive and hard to find. I think it's a common problem, the more exotic your pet, the harder it is to accomodate their needs.
