I know they are not really considered pets but more "farm animals" but I was wondering if anyone has had chickens. We're thinking about getting some laying hens but know very little about them. And how does one have them without getting attatched or treating them like pets?

We had a few chickens when I was growing up- They were not pets though - just chickens to lay eggs. I wouldn't think of doing it now. I don't know what my dad was thinking. We didn't have them long.

I think it would be great to keep chickens.
One thing you must not do, for fear of getting attached, is give them names.
I know very little about them, but to lay eggs you need one male to about every four females.

My grandparents have chickens as pets. They are raising them for fun and not for the meat. I think there is no wrong in having chickens especially if you have adequate space for them in your home.

We see so many peopel who have prize cheickens. Theya re as well cared for as a child. I think its how the person looks at it. If you ahve ebver gone to a County, state or regional fair you can see that so many checkens are pets.

Chickens are kind of an odd choice of pets. I don't think I could keep them, but they seem to make good pets if you really take care of them.
