PostSubject: Fish Can Be Expensive   Tue Aug 26, 2008 10:15 am

I'm not talking about a little goldfish but if do start to collect fish it can end up costing a lot of money.

Years ago my uncle thought that he'd buy a couple of fish and put them in a small aquarium. He loved them so much that ended up with hundreds of fish in four huge aquariums.

My cousins and I would sit and watch the fish for hours on end when we were younger and when my uncle decided he couldn't take care of all the fish or afford everything that was needed for them, my cousins and I were disappointed.

I recently thought I might get some fish but when I saw the price of the fish and everything I would need I decided against it.

Does anyone have a large aquarium and is it as expensive as I think it is?

I know if you have a salt water setup having fish can be a very pricey endeavor. Salt water fish themselves can cost an easy $50-100 a piece, not to mention all the chemicals and maintenance involved in keeping the tank up.

I've known a guy that had fish that were incredibly expensive, like 2000 dollars a piece. I was like, wow.

Yes, that's true.Fish can be expensive, they require clean water, food, lights and a quiet place with no agitation around.

We had a 55 gallon aquarium before the kids were born. It is amazing how big the angel fish would get, and a few others. We didn't really pay a lot for our fish. We bought them from the pet store in town and when they grew really large we would trade them in for smaller ones. The store then would sell the bigger ones and make a profit. It's amazing how big they can grow. I don't know if it was because we had a large aquarium with not many fish or maybe because we may have fed them too much.

Its not just the fish themselves that are expensive, have you seen the price of the tanks?

I would love to keep tropical fish, but it is a very expensive hobby, especially when the big fish start eating the little ones like in my stepdads tank.

I as well would love a big aquarium for salt water fish, but the costs outweigh the want if you know what I mean.

The type of fish tank I want is going to be wicked expensive. But once I buy the fish it won't be toooo bad. It's mainly the start up cost that is so expensive. Especially with a salt water tank...after that you just really have to worry about the chemicals needed and the salt that is needed.

I am keeping a small aquarium only as a hobby and room decor. Yes, the maintenance to keep the fishes alive is more expensive than the fish themselves. My fish isn't pricey so it isn't that sad if they sometimes die Sad

Yes, it would seem that this is not a very expensive hobby. But as time rolls on it becomes obvious that there are a large number of expenses that most people are unaware.

I agree about the salt water fish. They are pretty to look at, but very costly.

We have a ten gallon tank with some basic tropical fish. Quite pretty, and we spend about $40 altogether, fish included.

I bought my son a fish tank last Christmas and the idea was that he could pick out his own fish. We went to the store and I was shocked to see some fish which were priced at over 1000 dollars a piece.

Yes, some fishes can be really expensive. If you are buying fish, the first thing to do would be to talk with a really informed salesperson at the pet store so that you get as much information as possible.

Such persons are helpful and could guide you as to the correct pet fish supplies and fish essentials that you need to buy.

It is an expensive and messy affair.Keeping fish and keeping them healthy needs a lot of hard work. I would consider it to be full day job and that also has to be done with dedication and sincerity.
