When I was having a problem with the algae's formed in my aquarium, one of my friends advised me to have an algae fish. I bought two black mollies and one otocinclus cats, it worked like a miracle, all the algae just disappeared. Algae fishes are the best scavengers I had seen.

Thats interesting. My hubby was using snails. I`ll have to ask him if he knows about these fish. Our tank is always getting algae.

That would be brilliant idea, if these fish act as fish tank cleaners, it is nothing like that. You can have the company of another fish and get things with ease.

We had some algae eaters in our tank when we were kids. I cannot remember what they were called, but they had these lips that sucked everything up form the bottom and the sides of the tank. I remember my little sister used to call them vaccum cleaners!!!

We have the algae eaters in our fish tank also. They keep the tank awesome clean. It is amazing the difference that they make. I would never have fish without algae eaters again.

Many people also use snails for this purpose. However I believe that fishes are much useful as they have a large diet and can digest large amount of algae within a few days.

I have a plecostomus that keeps my 55 gallon tank clean of algae. They can get to be around 12 inches long. They'll eat more algae than snails and you won't have to worry about your tank becomng over populated.
