What is the best antibiotic that you can use for a dog? I want to make sure I use something that would not hurt them if they licked it off.

I am interested in finding this out as well. I know I've used a few ointments that I picked up but I used those collars to prevent licking at the same time.

One thing I did use at one point was teatree oil, it kept my dog from licking simply from the smell, and I have heard it has antibiotic properties. But... my vet said to be careful with it because the stuff is TOXIC to dogs!

I have used Equate Triple Antibiotic Ointment on my cat, but it was on such a spot that he couldn't possibly lick (on the back of his neck), so I did not have to worry about that. He had a wound there, and the ointment helped to heal it. I'd ask the vet what to use that would be safe for pets.

we use the neosporin with pain killer in cream form instead.
First teh cream when rubbed in goes in quicker with no petroleum.
the pain killer if they were to lick it will make the tongue numb.

we apply cream firstthena thin layer of aloe on top. aloe beingnaturoa doent bother them and helps to protect the area.

we wash wounds with warmed bactine too.
